The Freescale P4080DS-PC processor evaluation board is a feature-rich embedded system designed to minimize development time and cost by providing access to an advanced skillset. It has been designed to help verify and optimize system performance with all the integrated peripherals – including SATA, multiple USB ports, Gigabit Ethernet, and display connection interfaces. Additionally, the processor evaluation board allows the user to measure performance against the MCU, DSP, and processor instruction sets.
The P4080DS-PC evaluation board provides access to two PowerQUICC III cores – the P4080 and P5020 – each containing two integrated DDR3 memory controllers. The integrated DDR3 memory controllers provide the highest memory bandwidth, allowing for the possibility of multiple applications running simultaneously. Additionally, the board includes front and rear panel I/O, giving users access to serial packets, PCI Express based components, local and network storage, video input and video processing.
The on-board P4080 processor offers a number of features to maximize system performance and lower operating costs, including a dual-core design, as well as support for up to six Ethernet ports and two USB ports for peripheral interfacing. The processor evaluation board provides an easy integration platform for development and prototyping for any embedded system. It can be used as a scalable platform for powering control systems, microcontrollers, and Linux platforms.
The on-board P5020 processor is part of Freescale’s PowerQUICC III family, and is designed to deliver superior performance. The P5020 is capable of up to 2.4 GHz in dual mode, and up to 1.2 GHz in single mode, making it the fastest and most efficient processor of the PowerQUICC III family. As a result, the P5020 can handle high-end computing tasks, such as video and audio playback, as well as running multiple operating systems with multiple applications.
The P4080DS-PC processor evaluation board also includes an optimized power management system that helps to conserve energy and extend the life of the device. The board offers intelligent power sequencing and independently configurable power state transitions. This allows for lower operating costs, improved performance, higher system throughput, and improved system stability.
The processor evaluation board also offers a number of integrated communication peripherals. These include Gigabit Ethernet, USB 2.0, SATA II, and SERDES interfaces. Additionally, the board has options for high-frequency clock sources, as well as an 8-bit video port. This provides the flexibility to easily integrate peripherals for a variety of applications, such as industrial automation, automotive, medical, consumer, and communications.
