The PCM1690 is a 16-bit, low-power audio digital-to-analog converter (DAC) designed for use in automotive infotainment systems and other portable applications. The device integrates a low-current digital-to-analog converter and a low-voltage analog preamplifier, allowing it to be used as a complete system with an external audio amplifier. It is available in a space-saving 16-pin advanced thin quad flat no lead (AQFN) package and operates from a single 3.3 V power supply.The PCM1690 has excellent dynamic performance, with a distortion figure of –103 dB, a signal-to-noise ratio of –94 dB and a channel crosstalk of –98 dB. It supports the JESD204C low-latency multichannel audio interface, enabling applications that require very low latency operation, such as immersive audio. The device supports lossless stereo, independent data and single data operation.PCM1690 applications include automotive infotainment systems, portable digital audio players, consumer electronics, and other audio applications that require low power, low latency audio output. It also has applications in digital communication systems, such as satellites and other airborne equipment, and can be used for in-flight entertainment systems.The PCM1690 has two modes of operation: master and slave. In master mode, the PCM1690 outputs audio signals from digital audio sources. In slave mode, the device receives and processes digital audio signals. A master clock is required to support both modes and should be set to the same frequency as the source clock, or to the maximum frequency of the source clock.The PCM1690 also features advanced features such as dynamic range and gain control, stereo/mono switch, digital mute and zero-latency audio switching. It also supports selectable soft mute, channel crosstalk reduction and digital attenuation of individual output channels.The PCM1690 is powered by a low-power micro-power processor that enables low-latency operations and features a variety of communication protocols such as I2S, DSD, PDM, DMA, I2C and SPI.
