PI90LVB16L is a low-voltage, high-performance clock buffer. It operates at 1.8V or 2.5V supply voltage, and provides differential fanout with clock signals up to 400MHz or higher.
PI90LVB16L has a variety of applications in clock and timing systems, including: computer and communication networks, clocks, phase-locked loops (PLL), clock synchronization, digital audio and video systems, digital data communications, and system integration.
The PI90LVB16L includes sixteen independent buffers with programmable low-power, low-skew, differential outputs. It supports multiple operating points for each channel, and has a selectable drive current for each output of up to 200mA/channel. The PI90LVB16L also supports delay cells for optimizing clock-skew across multiple channels.
In addition to its design flexibility, the PI90LVB16L utilizes advanced design techniques such as patented dynamic swing control and optimized on-chip termination to assure excellent signal integrity and minimal power consumption. Additionally, the clock buffer supports a wide frequency range, eliminating the need for programmable clock sources in many applications.
In terms of working principle, PI90LVB16L is designed to fan out clock signals. Clock signals can be directed to each output buffer in the chip through a single input buffer. Propagation delay and differential skew across outputs are minimized by using advanced design techniques such as dynamic pre-emphasis, internal termination, and adaptive output drive.
The PI90LVB16L features two device modes: full-swing and reduced-swing mode. In reduced-swing mode, the output voltage swing is automatically adjusted according to the data rate and loading factors that are specific to each application.
In addition, the PI90LVB16L includes an integrated clock monitor which monitors both the input clock and output clock signals. The monitor adjusts the clock drivers’ output drive as needed to compensate for output loading effects.
