Film capacitors, also known as plastic film capacitors or polymer film capacitors, are passive electrical components which utilize a polymer film as the dielectric medium. The most popular of these films is polyvinyl chloride (PVC). PVC2147 Film Capacitor is a major product of this family. It consists of a roll or stack of conductors and layers of dielectric film placed between the electrodes, with electrodes being on both the top and bottom of the film. PVC2147 is extensively used in industrial, military and aerospace applications.

The application field of a PVC2147 Film Capacitor is usually in low loss operation, high insulation requirements and a wide range of capacitances. PVC2147 is especially known for its high voltage and ripple current capabilities. As it has a long shelf life and stability even under extreme temperature variations, it is used in many advanced applications. These include surface mount technology, automotive and aerospace systems, impact driver applications, RF circuits, military equipment, biomedical instruments, hybrid electronic systems and many other modern electronic equipment.

The working principle of a PVC2147 Film Capacitor is based on its dielectric medium. The dielectric in the form of a polymeric film is placed between two electrodes, forming a capacitor. This dielectric material provides the electrical insulation which allows the charge to accumulate when the voltage is applied. On the other hand, when a charge is stored on the capacitor, electrons collect around the positive plate and move away from the negative plate, creating an electric field. This electric field produces a potential across the capacitor which can be utilized for various applications.

The capacitor’s stored energy consists of both the charge and the voltage applied to the capacitor. When a voltage is applied to the capacitor, charge is stored in the form of an electric field between the dielectric material and the electrodes. This is known as the electric displacement field. Voltage applied across the capacitor will cause a displacement field and the charge stored in the capacitor will be proportional to the voltage applied.
