Film Capacitors
A film capacitor, also known as a plastic film dielectric capacitor, is a capacitor that uses a plastic film as the dielectric, sometimes combined with paper as a carrier of the electrodes. The plastics used for dielectric films are polypropylene, polyester, polycarbonate, polyphenylene sulfide, polyvinyl fluoride, polyetherimide and various other materials. PVC2168 Application Field and Working Principle
The PVC2168 is a polypropylene (PP) plastic film capacitor available in ±20 to ±1000V DC voltage rating and 0.022 to 3.3μF capacitance. It features a temperature range of between -20 and +60 °C, making it an excellent option for applications requiring a general-purpose capacitor with a moderate tolerance of ±20%.
In principle, when alternating current flows through a power supply, the current will create an opposite charge in the plates of the capacitor, so they are alternating between regions of high and low charge. Since the capacitance in this device is very high, the current is almost completely blocked, leading to a reduced or stopped flow. This is how the PVC2168 works when exposed to alternating current.
The PVC2168 has very diverse application fields. It can be used as an energy storage device in low-voltage circuits, as well as in pulse circuits and Audio AC filters. It can also be used in AC voltage suppression circuits to protect other electronic components such as transformers. The device can also be employed as a part of a noise filter to reduce EMI and RFI interference, and is commonly used to rectify and filter even AC voltage.
