When electricity is applied to a PVC 2x115mm film capacitor, it becomes insulated by its dielectric and polarizes. This polarization releases electrons and causes a charge separation to occur that builds up in the dielectric. This charge separation produces an electric field in the PVC film that is able to store the energy. When a voltage is applied to the plates, an AC current is generated in the PCB that alters the electric field in the dielectric. This field is then stored within the capacitor as electrical energy.The multiple layers of the PVC 2x115mm film capacitor provide a series of plates with multiple dielectrics that help to store more electric energy in the same amount of space and insulation thickness.
