RN152-8-02 application field and working principle

Common Mode Chokes, also referred to as Balun transformers, are devices used to suppress or prevent electromagnetic interference (EMI) from either entering or being emitted from an electrical system. They are widely used in a variety of applications and a variety of configurations, from a single unit to a group of components connected in a full-fledged network. They are designed mainly to reduce the impact of EMI, while maintaining signal integrity and yielding significant electrical performance benefits.

A common mode choke can be divided in two parts, a core, which provides the inductance, and a bobbin, which contains a number of individual wires which actually form the choke. These two parts work together to inhibit the transmission of current, or the coupling of energy from one wire to another when they are in one circuit, by providing a magnetic field.

In the case of the RN152-8-02, the core is a U-shaped Ni-Zn ferrite, which is encased within a plastic bobbin. It has 8 pins on the bobbin, arranged in two groups of four, and each of these pins is connected to one of the inner wires. The inner wires themselves are made from high quality copper, and are soldered directly to the edge of the bobbin.

The purpose of the RN152-8-02 common mode choke is to allow signals to pass through while filtering out high-frequency noise and preventing the coupling of energy from one wire to another. This allows the device to improve the performance of the circuits it is used in, by reducing cross-talk and enhancing common-mode suppression. This helps to protect the device\'s sensitive circuits and to reduce electromagnetic interference (EMI) generated by the device.
