Regular Silicon or Germanium metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistors (RSEMFETs) are one of the most versatile and widely used active devices for analog and digital circuit applications. RSEMFETs are made up of a single metal–oxide–semiconductor field-effect transistor (MOSFET), two metal–oxide contacts (MOS contacts) and a substrate. They are used in the fields of voltage regulators and rectifiers, audio circuits, power generation and other power conversion applications.

In a semiconductor device, charge carriers move between two energy levels, the conduction and valence bands.
