S1JLHRUG (Selenium Controlled Silicon Rectifier), or diode, is a semiconductor device that allows current to flow in one direction. When the voltage is above a certain "reverse breakdown voltage" the diode becomes conductive, allowing current to flow in one direction. If the reverse voltage is lower than the breakdown voltage, the diode becomes non-conductive and does not allow any current to flow.This means that if a reverse voltage of greater than the breakdown voltage is applied to the diode, it will become conductive, allowing current to flow in one direction only. In other words, the single rectifier will act as a one-way switch, either allowing current to flow or completely blocking it, depending on the direction of the applied voltage.The advantages of single rectifiers are that they are relatively cheap, offer high speed switching times, and extremely low on-resistance values.
