Thyristors - SCRs
An SCR is a four-layer diode that can be triggered into the conduction state. SCRs are mainly composed of N-type and P-type silicon crystals and use their own characteristics to control their on and off characteristics. Among them, the special semisonductor switch component is S601EAP.
S601EAP is an MCRbased ultra-sensitive SCR with extremely low trigger current and low forward voltage drop. It has a built-in gate and can be used from 150V to 600V with a trigger current of 16mA. The material of S601EAP is silicon material, and its rated load current is able to achieve 12A, with a maximum load surge current of up to 50A.
Application Field
The application fields of S601EAP are quite extensive. It is the main component for motor control in the regular industrial motor control system, as well as various pulse width modulation (PWM) control applications. Besides, S601EAP can also be used for industrial power supplies, street lighting, microwave ovens, vending machines, LCD displays, and other industries.
Working Principle
The basic operating principle of S601EAP is that when a certain voltage is applied to the control terminals, the current at the control end increases, and then the control end produces a certain temperature so that the refractory metal at its inside produces a certain thermoelectric voltage. When the thermoelectric voltage is greater than the forward bias voltage, the SCR is can be fired and its conducting state can be triggered.
Taking a specific example, the working process of industrial motor speed regulation is usually realized by the S601EAP. When the S601EAP is turned on, the current-limiting resistor connected to its control end will cause the instantaneous current flowing through the S601EAP to be controlled within a certain safe range, and the resistance of the control end will also decrease, so it cause the current flow through the S601EAP to be relatively large. After the S601EAP is turned on, it will force the motor to enter the next higher speed mode.
In the process of motor speed adjustment, S601EAP is turned off at this time. This can cause the motor to move to the next lower speed mode. Due to the low trigger current of S601EAP, the current that flows through the control end can also be very small, so as to ensure the current does not exceed the safe current range. In this way, S601EAP can achieve the effect of speed regulation.
