Working Principle

The working principle of the SA160CAHA0G is relatively simple. The diode has two metal oxide varistors (MOV) within the package, which provide the ESD protection. The varistors are designed to clamp any transient high voltage as soon as it appears on the load, limiting the amount of current passed through the device.

The diode also has a thermal switch within it, which serves as the over voltage protection mechanism.
