TVS - Diodes have been used widely in the market for several years due to their wide application field and their impressive working principles. This is of great value to circuitry as without this protective feature, there is the potential of serious damage should a voltage spike occur. The device also has an attractive thermal resistance of just 131°C/W, which allows the application of this device in high-powered circuitry without the need for large heat dissipation units.

In terms of its working principle, the SA40C-E3/73 diode is based on PN junction technology and contains two dissimilar material layers. This creates a two-layer field effect transistor which ensures that when a voltage exceeds the 40-volt mark, a breakdown of the PN junction occurs and the breakdown voltage is absorbed instead of making its way to the downstream component. The device fits perfectly into a 3rd-party Electrostatic Discharge (ESD) protection package. The package is a two-terminal type with a current absorption capability of up to 12.1A, a very impressive result!
