Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) diodes are used to protect sensitive electronics from voltage spikes caused by electrical surges. The SA64HE3/54 is a fast-responding, bi-directional TVS diode designed to protect against electrostatic discharger (ESD) and other transients. This device is designed to provide a rated clamping voltage of 54V and can handle up to 600W of power at t ≤ 1µs.
The SA64HE3/54 is a member of Littelfuse’s SIDACtor® family of Transient Voltage Surge Suppressors (TVSS). It is suitable for applications that require high surge capability, low stand-off voltage, and enhanced dynamic immunity.
The SA64HE3/54 is designed to protect against fast transient voltages onedirectionally and bidirectionally. It is ideal for protecting low voltage signals such as high-speed data lines. It can also be used to protect the power supply’s DC/DC converter input line or AC line. In addition, it can be used in applications such as automotive powertrain, audio-visual equipment, and telecom systems.
The SA64HE3/54 is also suitable for industrial applications, where it can protect DC/DC converters and their loads. In addition, it can be used to protect motor drivers, lighting control, and measurement and control of sensors.
The SA64HE3/54’s working principle is twofold. It uses a ring of semiconductor devices that connect the full voltage when exposed to a short duration voltage spike. The clamping voltage, or maximum voltage that will be passed, is determined by the peak power rating of the device. The second part of the device’s working principle is its inherent reverse-bias or diode clamping, which is used in the device for ESD protection.
The SA64HE3/54 is an ideal solution for protecting extreme voltage spikes, which can cause system failure or damage. It is designed to protect up to 600W of power at a clamping voltage of 54V and can handle transients with rise times up to 1µs.
