RF Front End (LNA + PA)

The SE5502L-R is a RF front end module intended for wireless applications and combines a low-noise amplifier (LNA) and a power amplifier (PA). Its purpose is to build a bridge between the transceiver and the antenna. In this way, it amplifies the radio signal before it is sent to the antenna, which boost its broadcast radius, and amplifies incoming signals to be translated by the transceiver.

Application Fields

This module can be used in a wide range of applications that benefit from maximum signal gain at low current consumption, such as UHF portable base stations, 802.11 wireless networks, L and S bands, PCS handsets, and cellular phones. The SE5502L-R incorporates a novel high-efficiency power amplifier design, which allows for 15 dB of gain, an output power of 18 dBm, a low noise figure of 2.5 dB, high linearity, a very low current consumption of only 33 mA, and a 200 MHz bandwidth.

Working Principle

The modules works by receiving an incoming signal from the transceiver in the form of a low-intensity radio wave, which is then amplified by the LNA. This is done by applying a DC bias to the transistor and adjusting its gate voltage to increase the amplification. After this stage, the signal passes to the PA stage, which further boosts the signal before being sent to the antenna.The PA stage brings the signal to its peak power, boosting broadcast radius and allowing receivers in greater distances to pick up the signal. The power amplifier is a critical component because it takes the boosted LNA signal and multiplies its power to the final broadcast power.There is also a matching network that is responsible for matching the module to the antenna. This facilitates the transfer of energy from the amplifier to the antenna instead of dissipating it or sending it to the ground. Finally, all the components are integrated on a single board, so it is easy to install.
