The Silicon Labs SI53302-B-GM is a frequency synthesizer clock generator and jitter attenuator that combines low jitter clock generation with low cost. It is a versatile clock/timing device designed for computer, consumer and industrial applications where multiple clock frequencies are required from a single reference clock. In this document, first the application field and working principle of the SI53302-B-GM will be discussed in detail. The SI53302-B-GM is a low power, low jitter, programmable clock generator. It is the latest generation of Silicon Labs frequency synthesizer and jitter attenuator. It is capable of generating up to five independently programmable low-jitter outputs from a single reference clock while consuming only 29 mW at 3.3 V and 3.6 mW in its standby power-down mode. It is a great choice for system designs featuring multiple clock sources and reducing the number of required clock sources. The main application field for the SI53302-B-GM is in computer, consumer, and industrial applications with multiple clock frequencies, such as: digital video and audio systems, digital transmission systems, fiber-optic communications systems, network switches, routers, and storage systems. It is also suitable for higher-speed applications, including proprietary and high-performance serial interfaces. The SI53302-B-GM supports several PLL modes, including a fractional-N fractional-modulus PLL that offers integer-multiple, fractional-multiple or dual-modulus frequency synthesis. It also incorporates advanced clock conditioning, including jitter attenuation, clock multiplication, mesochronous mode and clock skew reduction, enabling flexible applications across a broad range of topologies and data rates. The SI53302-B-GM architecture includes a jitter attenuator, two frequency synthesizers, two input buses, a programmable control bus, and an output/gain bus. The jitter attenuator is used to clean up the signal from an incoming reference clock and reduce jitter on the output clocks. The two frequency synthesizers generate clock signals from the clean reference clock, which can be programmed in the PLL modes mentioned above. The two input buses allow for external control of the SI53302-B-GM. The programmable control bus is used for programming the reference clock and PLL settings, and the output/gain bus is used for setting the channel output levels and frequency. Overall, the SI53302-B-GM is a very useful device for those applications requiring multiple clock frequencies. With its low jitter and low power consumption, it is a great choice for applications where multiple clock sources are needed.
