The SKY66008-11 is a low cost, highly efficient, wideband RF amplifier. It is designed for use in a variety of applications including cellular base station transceivers, microwave backhaul, Wifi, test and measurement, and satellite communications. The device supports both linear and non-linear modulation techniques to provide optimal performance in these applications.

Application Field

The SKY66008-11 RF amplifier is ideally suited for a wide range of wireless applications, spanning from ultra-low power Wifi, Bluetooth, and Zigbee systems, to digital cellular networks, and high power point-to-point microwave links. The integrated linearization and non-linear modulations make it suitable for 3G and 4G cellular systems. It provides gain up to 37 dB, good linearity (IP3 of +50 dBm), and low noise figure less than 2 dB. The low current consumption of the SKY66008-11 coupled with its small size makes it an excellent choice for energy efficient microwave systems. Additionally, the SKY66008-11 can be used in direct conversion receivers, such as TV tuners.

Working Principle

The SKY66008-11 operates in the 2.4-2.5 GHz frequency range and consists of input, output, and active (design specific) matching networks. The device utilizes active bias circuitry to provide the optimum bias point for best efficiency and linearity. It provides power gain of 37 dB, and a compressed gain of 42 dB. The harmonic distortion with 100% AM modulation is low, and its output power range is from -20 to +28 dBm. The integrated power detector allows the adjustment of linearity down to the 1 dB compression point.

The SKY66008-11 is designed to operate from a single +3.3V or +5V supply. It has a shutdown mode which can be used to switch off the amplifier. The shutdown mode provides a current reduction of typically 7% of the normal operating current. It guarantees better current consumption than class AB and class C amplifiers, making it suitable for low power and battery operated applications.
