SKY67107-306LF is a high performance low noise amplifier module (LNA) that operates in the DC to 2000 MHz frequency range. This amplifier can be used in a variety of applications such as cellular base station, GPS receivers, consumer electronics, cellular pager, and other wireless based equipment. The module has excellent gain and linearity characteristics which makes it ideal for these applications.

Application Field

This module has excellent thermal stability and power handling capabilities which makes it suitable for use in demanding applications such as cellular base station, RF identification and mobile radio communications. The low input and output return losses make this LNA ideal for the design and fabrication of high performance RF transceivers. The low noise figure of the module is also beneficial in the design of high sensitivity receivers.

The module is also well suited for use in radar, land mobile radio and wireless data systems. It can be used in amplifier chains for achieving gain blockage and also in direct-conversion receivers as an intermediate frequency (IF) amplifier. At high frequencies, this module can be used in applications such as VSAT and satellite communications and in test equipment for testing high frequency signals.

Working Principle

The SKY67107-306LF amplifier module is based on a double balanced Gilbert-cell mixer principle. The mixer consists of two differential transconductors, each biased with an I-V. The transconductors act as current sources or sinks and the current is transferred through the integrated inductor into a matching resistive network. The resistive network forms the quad filter which signalizes the signal present at the input of the amplifier module. This acts as the gain stage for the amplifier.

The output of the filter stage is then amplified by the transistor stages. These stages also bring in the necessary gain and linearity characteristics required for the amplifier module. The gain of the amplifier module is adjustable and is done by varying the bias currents of the respective transistors. The entire module is assembled in a shielded and hermetically sealed copper can to provide thermal, electrical and environmental protection.
