SMAJ70CA-TR is a transient voltage suppressor (TVS) protective diode that is designed for ESD (electrostatic discharge) and other transient overvoltage protection applications. The device can be used in both analogue and digital circuits to protect transistors, MOSFETs, and other sensitive components from electrostatic discharge voltages as high as ±20kV. It is rated for a peak pulse power of 400W and a working voltage up to 70V.The SMAJ70CA-TR is packaged in a SMAJ-TR package, which is a surface-mount package that provides protection against reverse-biased diodes and other failure modes. The device is designed to be low-profile and low-weight, making it ideal for use in portable electronics.The SMAJ70CA-TR operates according to the PN junction diode principle. PN junction diodes have two layers of semiconductor material with different doping concentrations. When a positive voltage is applied to the p-type layer and a negative voltage applied to the n-type layer, the PN junction forms, and electrons and holes recombine to form a depletion zone. This depletion zone keeps the current from passing through the junction, prohibiting current flow.When the reverse voltage applied to the PN junction exceeds its breakdown voltage, the depletion zone decreases in size and allows current to flow. This reverse current is limited by the diode\'s dynamic resistance, creating a voltage drop across the diode. This voltage drop limits the amount of current that can flow through the diode, protecting against overvoltage conditions.The SMAJ70CA-TVS diode is designed to provide protection against various types of transient overvoltage conditions, including electrostatic discharge, lightning strikes, and circuit surges. The device can be used in both signal and power circuits to provide protection against overvoltage conditions. Additionally, the device offers low capacitance, fast response times, and relatively low leakage current.Applications for the SMAJ70CA-TR include consumer electronics, telecommunications, automotive, and other applications requiring protection against transient voltages.
