The SP3002-04HTG (Surface Mounted Transient Voltage Suppressor - also referred to as a “Transient Voltage Shield”) is designed to protect sensitive electronic components, such as microprocessors, from overvoltage and short-circuit events. This device features a PNF (Positive Negative Feedback) design, achieving very fast response times to transient voltage spikes. The device also features high surge capabilities and can handle voltage spikes up to 8KV.

The SP3002-04HTG is designed to be mounted onto a printed circuit board with its flat side facing the board. The device is composed of a few components, including a silicon diode and two metal oxide varistors (MOVs). The silicon diode is used to inline TVS diodes to the power line, while the MOVs are connected in series with the power line to protect against transient voltage spikes. The device also features a Bi-directional design, meaning it can protect both positive and negative voltage.

When a voltage spike occurs, either from ESD (Electro-Static Discharge) or induced power/lightning surge, the MOV’s in the SP3002-04HTG will dissipate the energy of the voltage spike and limit the peak output voltage to a safe level. The Si diode, on the other hand, will act as a physical protection barrier for any voltage that exceeds the set voltage of the MOVs, further providing protection to the sensitive electronics.
