Linear and compass (ICs) magnetic sensors are becoming increasingly popular in electronics systems for being able to measure and detect physical phenomenon and parameters using an electromagnet. The SS495B is a linear magnetic hall effect IC that is primarily used for position, current, flow and speed sensing applications. It is a compact and highly reliable device that can accurately measure magnetic fields and offer over-temperature and over-voltage protection.

The SS495B consists of two basic components: a linear and a compass sensing unit. The linear sensing unit is composed of a low-sensitivity, low-power, high-sensitivity and high-power type. It has a magnetic linear range of +/−50 mT and a minimum operating temperature of −40°C. It can handle a maximum current rating of ±10 mA and a maximum voltage rating of ±5 V. The compass sensing unit is made up of a low-power sensing type and a high-power sensing type. It has a magnetic compass range of ±10° and a minimum operating temperature of −40°C. It can handle a maximum current rating of ±2.5 mA and a maximum voltage rating of ±3 V.

The SS495B application field and working principle mainly lies in the detection of the angle, intensity and direction of magnetic fields. It has a main sensing element which is a Hall effect IC. This IC acts as an analog transducer, converting the transmitted signal from the magnetic field into a low-frequency voltage signal. This signal is then processed and amplified, resulting in a lower-frequency output voltage. The output voltage will be proportional to the intensity of the magnetic field, allowing for precise measurements of angles, intensity or direction of the magnetic field.
