Working Principle
The SST26VF016B-104I/WF70S works by using a series of transistors to store and retrieve digital data. This current then passes through a metal-oxide-semiconductor (MOS) field-effect transistor (FET), which acts like a controllable switch. When the voltage drops below a certain threshold, the transistor will switch off, blocking current from flowing.
The SST26VF016B-104I/WF70S utilizes three different types of transistors to store and retrieve data: n-type MOSFET, p-type MOSFET and Complementary MOSFET (CMOS). N-type transistors allow current to pass through when a voltage is applied; p-type transistors switch on when a voltage is removed; and CMOS transistors can switch on both when a voltage is applied or removed, allowing the memory to store both 0 and 1 values.
In order to store data, the device first stores data in the gate of the n-type transistor. When a voltage is applied, current passes through the transistor, writing the data to its memory cells. To retrieve data, the current flows from the FET, through the cells to the p-type transistor, and then back to the FET.
