The ST16C550CP40-F is a field programmable universal asynchronous receiver transmitter (UART) integrated circuit (IC) constructed using STMicroelectronics’s CMOS technology. This UART can transmit and/or receive full duplex serial data with communication rates of up to 3.072 Mbps. The ST16C550CP40-F offers an extended feature set that makes it a versatile communications device. The ST16C550CP40-F achieves superior performance and low power dissipation by employing an advanced bus interface architecture and a novel FIFO buffer design.
Flexible interfacing allows the ST16C550CP40-F to support various systems such as computers, servers, servers, and industrial control systems. The interfacing of the ST16C550CP40-F is designed to reduce the burden on its peripheral components. For example, the integrated FIFO buffers provide the ability to simultaneously transmit and receive serial data without overwhelming the host processor. The FIFOs also provide the capability to buffer data for extended intervals of time, allowing for communication rates of up to 3.072 Mbps.
