The STEVAL-ISA006V1 is an evaluation board designed for DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPS. This evaluation board is provided to evaluate ST\'s primary-side regulation (PSR) topology solutions used in DC-DC converters and AC-DC power supplies. It integrates an STMicroelectronics 650V STPOWER MDmesh K2/K3 power MOSFET, the STBC03VH intelligent gate driver, and an STMicroelectronics STC02C control IC.

This evaluation board is a full differentially regulated six-switch TOPology (FARST) converter that achieves ZVS (zero voltage switching) for all switches. It is designed to operate with a wide input voltage range of 120VAC to 277VAC, providing an output voltage of 12V at up to 30W in an enclosed isolated package. The evaluation board is provided with a DC-DC feedback loop system, including an opto-coupler based voltage feedback and external loop evaluation.

The primary-side regulation of this evaluation board uses a method of regulating the output voltage by controlling the topological switches on primary side. The FARST topology used on the evaluation board uses an active clamp during the switching transition and provides effective ZVS in both the on and off transition. This active clamping technique enables reducing the switching losses in the power transistors. It also enhances current limiting and soft start performances.

STEVAL-ISA006V1 primary-side regulation is based on STC02C control ICs which performs the direct current (DC) current sensing and second stage control under both continuous conduction and discontinuous conduction modes. The STC02C control ICs also control the active clamps to enjoy the ZVS transition of the topology. The control ICs provide adjustable overvoltage protection, allowing the designer to select either type of protection scheme for their application (voltage or current limited).
