STEVAL-ISV003V1 is an evaluation board from ST Microelectronics designed for the evaluation of high power density DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS used in multiple power applications such as industrial, automotive and consumer electronics. With flexible input/output regulation, StevaliSv003v1 is a reliable and cost effective solution for SMPS applications with higher power densities.

The board is designed to deliver the highest conversion efficiency with a wide input voltage range of 12V to 48V, making it suitable for the prototyping of applications like Full/Half/Quarter-Bridge topologies, Factorized and Non-factorized, Current Mode and Voltage Mode COT Controllers, etc. It has a low startup current of 70mA which makes it suitable for fast and accurate evaluation of different SMPS topologies. It also includes a Power Good Signal (PG) output that gives the user an indication of when the output is in normal operation.

The working principle of STEVAL-ISV003V1 is based on a control topology for PWM control & synchronization of the output voltage. It has an integrated Feedback Compensation Network (FCN) for controlling & regulating the output voltage. The FCN maintains a balance between the input voltage and the output voltage and makes sure that the output voltage is in sync with the input voltage and thus ensures high efficiency of the converter. The feedback compensation network uses an op amp as a comparator to compare the input and output voltages and based on the comparison results, it generates a compensation signal for controlling the power stage.

The STEVAL-ISV003V1 evaluation board also has a built-in protection system that protects against over-voltage, over-current, and under-voltage conditions. It provides a number of Programmable Propagation Delay (PPD) settings to control the power switch slew rate and to reduce the output voltage ripple effect and thus improve the overall efficiency of the converter. Furthermore, the board support different soft-start options such as Voltage Monitored Soft Start (VMSS) and Current Monitored Soft Start (CMSS) for controlling the start-up sequence of the converter and providing a smooth output transition.
