Optoisolators are used extensively in electronic systems to provide isolation between two circuits. One of the most common types of optoisolator is the transistor photovoltaic output (TCET1203G). This device combines a photodetector, an amplifier and a transistor output stage to provide electrical and optical isolation between two circuits.
The TCET1203G comprises a photodetector at its input which acts as an optically-activated switch. Light entering the detector will reduce its resistance allowing current to flow through the circuit. Different levels of light intensity will produce different output levels of electrical current, making the TCET1203G useful in numerous applications.
The photodetector is coupled to a trans-impedance amplifier, which is a type of current-to-voltage converter. The trans-impedance amplifier amplifies the small amount of current produced by the photodetector to create a useful voltage output. The amplified voltage is then sent to the output stage which is comprised of a transistor and resistor. The transistor acts as a switch, controlling the amount of voltage (or current) that is delivered to the output stage.
The TCET1203G is used primarily in industrial applications such as automation, HVAC systems and smart sensors. In these systems, it can be used to activate relays, switches or other electrical circuits in response to input signals from other devices such as motion sensors, infrared detectors or pressure switches. In addition, the TCET1203G can be used in LED or LCD displays, digital control systems, instrumentation and communications equipment.
