Aluminium Electrolytic Capacitors (AECs) are widely used in both consumer and industrial electronics products. With their small size and low cost, they offer a great combination of performance and value, which makes them ideal for an ever increasing range of applications. TCG101T250L2C is an AEC from a well known manufacturer, and its unique features make it suitable for a variety of different tasks.

The TCG101T250L2C is an AEC with a nominal capacitance of 250 µF, an operating voltage of 50 Vdc and a temperature range of -40°C to +85°C. It is a radial leaded capacitor, with a maximum lead spacing of 7.1 mm. Its case size is 10x12 mm, and it is RoHS compliant. In terms of performance, the TCG101T250L2C has excellent stability, low ESR, low impedance and good self-healing properties.

Due to its high capacity and low ESR, the TCG101T250L2C is especially suitable for use in power factor correction (PFC) and active harmonics reduction (AHR) applications. It can also be used in DC motor drives and switched Mode Power Supplies (SMPS), and in automotive applications such as On-Board Diagnostics (OBD) and fuel injection systems.

The working principle of an AEC is based on Faraday’s law of electrolysis, which states that when an electrical current passes through a conductor in a liquid, it creates an equal and opposite electric potential at the two ends of the conductor. This electric potential creates a separation of charge, known as an electrolytic polarization, which is maintained by the flow of electrolyte between the two electrodes. The effect is that the voltage across the capacitor is increased, creating a larger capacitance than would otherwise be obtained with just two plates.

AECs use a combination of an electrolyte and two aluminum oxide layers as a dielectric. The anode is a layer of activated aluminum, and is surrounded by a liquid electrolyte. The voltage between the anode and cathode is applied, creating electrolytic polarization, which increases the capacitance of the AEC. The anode is the positive terminal, and the capacitance increases with voltage. The positive and negative plates are sealed with a polarizable paper, which helps to minimize leakage current.

Sweat soldering is used to attach the leads to the AEC terminals. The leads are tipped with a solder paste that will rapidly solidify when heated, forming a strong, low-resistance connection between the leads and the terminals. This ensures that the capacitor can handle larger amounts of power, and can withstand extreme temperatures.

Due to its high performance, reliability, low cost and small size, the TCG101T250L2C AEC has a wide range of applications. It is ideal for use in energy saving applications, in motor drives and switched Mode Power Supplies, in fuel injection systems and in automotive applications such as On-Board Diagnostics.
