Interface - Serializers, Deserializers
Serializers and deserializers are Types ofinterface are used to connect two or more different communication systems, usually a sender and a receiver, over one or more channels. Most often, serializers and deserializers (SerDes) are used in networks, such as Ethernet. The main purpose of SerDes is to convert data packets between formats over a serial link. Without SerDes, data transmission between different nodes in a network would not be possible.
THCV216 is an industry-leading SerDes design from Texas Instruments. The THCV216 is a highly integrated SerDes chip, which offers four multi-protocol transceivers, each capable of transmitting or receiving up to 12.5 Gbps of data. The four transceivers can be operated in two pairs, one for full-duplex 1000BASE-X and one for full-duplex 10GBASE-KR operations. Additionally, the THCV216 has on-chip clock and data recovery, clock and data alignment and deskew, interface framing, rate matching and error detection and correction, as well as a programmable latency and low-power mode.
Application Field
The THCV216 is ideal for applications that require high data throughput and low latency. This device is commonly used in 10G Ethernet for wide area networks (WAN), data centers and storage, 100G/400G Ethernet for cloud computing, as well as High-Performance Computing (HPC). The THCV216 is also used in preproduction testing of optical transceivers and other electrical components.
Working Principle
The THCV216 operates by taking in data from the communication interface and then converting it into a digital format for transmission across the network. On the receiving side, it does the reverse, taking in the digital signal and converting it into the format appropriate for the outgoing communication interface. In both cases, the THCV216 performs clock and data recovery, data alignment, clock and data deskew, interface framing, rate matching, and error detection and correction.
The THCV216 also has a programmable latency and low-power mode. In the low-power mode, the THCV216 enters a reduced power state, reducing power consumption and extending battery life. Additionally, the programmable latency mode allows certain parts of the link to run slower than others, allowing resources to be prioritized correctly.
Finally, the THCV216 also supports standard ten-bit data coding, indicating the font characteristics of the data being sent, providing more reliable transmission and better error correction capabilities. The THCV216 also supports data scrambling for improved signal integrity.
The THCV216 is a powerful and reliable Serializer/Deserializer that has become an essential component for high-speed network communications in a variety of applications. Its combination of features and performance make it an ideal solution for the most demanding of applications.
