TL494CNG4 Application Field and Working Principle

The TL494CN series, which includes the TL494CNG4, are improved versions of the popular TL494 which have been developed to provide higher efficiency, higher operating speed, higher output current capabilities and improved output voltage regulation. The TL494CN series is a fixed frequency, pulse-width modulator and current-mode pulse-width-modulated (PWM) controller family; hence, they are perfect for applications in switching and linear voltage regulation, as well as a variety of power amplifier designs. The TL494CN series is suitable for a wide range applications, including powering of low-voltage circuit such as sensors, analog-to-digital and digital–to-analog converters, and LCD displays.The TL494CNG4 is an improved version of the TL494CN series and it is designed for use in high speed, current mode, pulse width modulation control applications. It is an integrated circuit with the capability of sourcing current up to 150mA and capacitance up to 130mF. The TL494CNG4 features a high current output, a low noise operation, a high frequency oscillator, overvoltage and thermal protection, a zero current detection circuit, and a variable-rise-and-fall control circuit. Additionally, the TL494CNG4 also includes a low drop-out (LDO) regulator and a programmable line-lock circuit.The TL494CNG4 includes a number of features that make it a perfect choice for applications in the DC-DC switching controller including the following:• Current mode operation - This feature provides high-efficiency operation and the ability to generate high-conductance voltage waveforms for optimal current transfer. • Wide range of frequency - The wide frequency range ensures compatibility with a variety of applications. • Overvoltage protection - The TL494CNG4 includes protective circuitry to protect the controller from potentially damaging overvoltage conditions.• Thermal protection - The thermal protection feature automatically reduces the operating frequency in order to maintain safe operating temperatures.• Programmable line-lock - The TL494CNG4 includes a programmable line-lock circuit which provides adjustable timing for controlling the output current.In addition to the features mentioned above, the TL494CNG4 also includes a wide range of other features that make it an ideal choice for power supply design and power control applications. These features include a low-dropout (LDO) regulator, a low-noise pulse width modulator, a power on-reset circuit, an internal oscillator and multiple protection features.In terms of working principle, the TL494CNG4 works through an oscillating signal that is generated by the internal oscillator. This oscillating signal is used to generate a pulse-width-modulated current waveform. The signal is then fed to the power output stage, which produces a DC output voltage that is regulated by the internal error amplifier. The feedback from the error amplifier is used to adjust the output voltage as required in order to maintain a constant output voltage.The TL494CNG4 is an ideal solution for a wide range of DC-DC switching controller applications. Thanks to its high current output, low-noise operation, wide frequency range and various protection features, it can be used in a variety of applications such as powering low-voltage circuits, analog-to-digital and digital–to-analog converters, and LCD displays.
