TL499ACP: Application Field and Working Principle

The TL499ACP is a high-efficiency PWM buck DC-DC voltage regulator produced by NXP Corporation that belongs to the category of PMIC - Voltage Regulators - DC DC Switching Regulators. The IC is a primary side constant voltage/constant current power supply for driving LEDs, providing a very simple and space-saving solution for applications such as LED lighting, industrial and consumer electronics. The power supply has a wide device-enable range of 2.3V to 5V. The internal PWM control circuit eliminates the need for a secondary feedback control circuit, and the wide input voltage range of 4V to 40V covers almost all practical need of voltage supply. Furthermore, it has a wide current range of 0.1A to 1.5A.

Working Principle of TL499ACP

The TL499ACP is a high-efficiency fixed frequency inductive step-down controller. It adopts peak current-mode control technique, enabling it to achieve fast loop response, simple compensation and low EMI. The signal at the feedback port of the controller from the LED resistor is applied to the internal error amplifier. The output of the error amplifier is compared with the reference voltage and the signal is used to control the external switching MOSFETs in the actual power stage. The device also has other protection functions such as over-current protection, over-voltage protection and thermal shutdown protection.

Applications of TL499ACP

The TL499ACP has very advanced feature and high performance and therefore it can be widely applied in a variety of applications.
