Optoisolators separate the input source from the output circuitry, as an optical source acts as the coupler between the two. The TLP250H is an optically isolated amplifier used in signal Isolation, power supply noise elimination, motor/servo control and computer-peripheral protection for motors, sensors and actuators. It is ideally suited for logic, industrial control, factory automation and consumer electronics applications
The TLP250H consists of a GaAs infrared LED and a single-channel high-gain photo-Darlington transistor output with base to emitter voltage rating of up to 70V. The LED emits infrared light when current is applied to it, and the output is connected to a photodarlington that amplifies the signal which in turn carries the output of the circuit.
The TLP250H is available in a standard 4-pin SOP8 package with a nominal isolation voltage of 5kV, suitable for use with a variety of input sources such as PLCs, computers, or logic circuits. The LED has low drive current requirement due to efficient light output from the photodiode, and the output is capable of very high current gains. The high gain of the photodarlington provides excellent noise immunity and self-saturation immunity.
The TLP250H offers a wide range of applications, including industrial control, factory automation, servo control and computer-peripheral protection. It is designed to drive a variety of motors (servo, brushed DC and stepper motors) as well as sensors, actuators, and relays. It is also used with optical encoders, to signal isolation in high voltage circuitry, and for power supply noise elimination.
The TLP250H’s working principle is surprisingly simple. When a voltage is applied to the LED, infrared light is emitted, and a photodarlington transistor amplifies the signal which in turn operates the output of the device. The increase in the voltage of the LED causes current to flow through the devices as well, operating the output relay. This gives the TLP250H an edge over similar optically isolated devices, as it can simultaneously amplify signals, reduce circuit noise, and switch on/off a load with high efficiency.
The TLP250H is a cost-effective, reliable, and robust optically isolated amplifier that is designed for a variety of applications.
