The TP5KP48CA is a series of Transient Voltage Suppression (TVS) Diodes manufactured by Vishay Intertechnology, Inc. The devices are designed for use in portable consumer electronics, designed to protect components from voltage spikes which may have negative impacts on system performance.The TP5KP48CA series is a low capacitance unidirectional diode that provides reliable surge protection in a wide variety of applications. The devices feature an ESD rating of greater than 15kV, an operating temperature range of +85°C to -75°C, and an insulation voltage rating of 5kV. The series also offers a low capacitance of only 3pF, making it an ideal choice for high speed signal applications. The devices also feature an IEC61439-2 rated surge current of up to 5A (8/20μs) to provide additional protection against over-voltage events.Terminal Layout
The TP5KP48CA is a single diode package design featuring a compact footprint, designed to minimize board space. The device features a series configuration with the anode connected to the center pin, followed by the two cathode pins on either side. A plastic body with a metal flange is used to ensure a secure connection on both sides of the package. Once the diode is conducting, the current will flow through it and begin to charge the parasitic capacitance associated with the device.3. As the voltage charge builds up, the current is limited by the dynamic resistance of the diode, allowing the voltage across the device to rise more slowly than the incoming pulse.4. Once the voltage reaches its peak value, the parasitic capacitance will begin to discharge, bringing the current and voltage back to their original levels.Conclusion
