Working Principle

The maximum working voltage of the TP5KP28A is 28V, and it can clamp peak overvoltage transients to a safe level. When the voltage of the power line rises above 32.5V, the bi-directional zener junction will be conductive with low voltage at the output, thus allowed current flows through the diode and to the ground for dissipation. What’s more, the voltage at the output will remain at the set voltage level during the clamping time even the overvoltage increases,and it is usually much lower than the safe level that allow the components to bear.

A fuse is integrated inside the TP5KP28A, which is designed to prevent any damage caused by short circuit or other extreme condition. The fuse is self-restoring, thus lets the circuit resumes its normal working when the overvoltage condition is gone.
