The TPS40060EVM is a versatile evaluation platform designed to support evaluation and development of all three part numbers of the TPS40060 family, which includes the high performance, high current Offline Switcher designed either for boosting, flyback, or forward topologies. The TPS40060EVM evaluation module is perfectly tailored for power designs requiring high performance and low BOM count with the strategy to minimize component count and board space usage. It is designed to provide the flexibility to start prototyping right away and to help select the right power supply solution for an application requiring 10 V to 60 V input voltage.
The TPS40060EVM features a wide range of protection and monitoring functions, allowing designers to easily build and test a wide variety of power supply solutions. The system features voltage and current monitoring and other advanced protection features like cycle-by-cycle peak current limit, hiccup current limit, input overvoltage protection, and input undervoltage protection. The TPS40060EVM also has a simple GUI interface that enables interactive testing of the power supply parameters.
The TPS40060EVM application field is mainly focused on DC/DC & AC/DC (Off-Line) SMPS. The TPS40060EVM working principle is based on the primary side control and regulation with a current mode controller, which is invariant to the power supply output load. It is based on an LM3535A dual supply controller, which provides adjustable output voltage and a fixed power factor setting of >0.7. The controller features a wide operating frequency (65kHz to 200kHz) and is capable of operating directly from an AC line voltage input of 110 VAC and a maximum DC input voltage of 400 V. The controller also features a simple Resistive Voltage Divider for protection, improving the regulation loop and the overall system stability. It also features an adjustable current limit setting and a temperature shutdown protection.
The TPS40060EVM is also equipped with an external overvoltage protection circuit. This overvoltage protection (OVP) circuit helps to protect the device from overvoltage conditions and allows the user to limit the maximum output voltage of the system.
