The TPS5401DGQR is a monolithic dual-phase synchronous buck regulator, which provides up to 12A of continuous output current. It has an internally preset VIN operating range of 8V-24V and an adjustable output voltage from 1V to 15V. It is specifically designed to provide an easy, cost effective solution for powering DSP processors, FPGAs, ASICs and other high- load digital applications.

The TPS5401DGQR is part of TI\'s PMIC-Voltage Regulators-DC DC Switching Regulators family. This type of switching regulator uses a high frequency pulse width modulation (PWM) control scheme to regulate output voltage. This scheme uses an internal feedback loop. An external voltage reference, along with a sensed output voltage, is used to control the duty cycle of the PWM signal. The PWM signal then controls the main switch and the output current.

The PWM switching frequencies of the TPS5401DGQR can be programmed by a ceramic capacitor connected to the RT pin. Supports switching frequency range from 100kHz to 750kHz, allowing for a shorter switching transient response time with minimal EMI that is ideal for noise sensitive applications. The device also includes an internal 2MHz oscillator resulting in a default switching frequency of 2MHz, which can also be synchronized with an external clock.

The TPS5401DGQR is designed to minimize output voltage ripple, improve transient response, and minimize gate drive power dissipation. The device integrates control logic, gate drives, high frequency switches, and the current and voltage sense circuits into a single package that simplifies design, lowers component count and reduces board size. The TPS5401DGQR features an adjustable soft start that limits inrush current and an adjustable current limit that ensures system reliability.

The device is offered in a ePad-FLGA package, making it versatile for automotive, industrial, and consumer applications. Over-temperature and UVLO protection are included to ensure the device operates in an acceptable operating range, thereby optimizing product life. The TPS5401DGQR is AEC-Q100 qualified and designed to withstand 125°C junction temperature, making it suitable for automotive environments.
