The TPS562209EVM-601 evaluation module is designed to demonstrate the operation and performance of Texas Instruments’ TPS562209 low-noise, high-efficiency, 22 V isolated DC/DC converter. This evaluation module features a 250-kHz synchronous current update architecture that offers electrically isolated, efficient and compact voltage conversion.
The TPS562209 can generate an isolated voltage up to 22 V. However, the maximum output power is limited to 28 W. The design of the EVM-601 is optimized for low-power, high conversion ratios and wide input voltage ranges that support multiple applications.
The module offers substantial system benefits due to the high-level synchronous current update architecture. It provides shorter startup time, low transient response times, better temperature stability and improved efficiency and power factor with minimal component count. In terms of the electrical performance of the board, it offers high input voltage protection, power factor correction, circuit protection and output overvoltage protection.
The EVM-601 supports a wide variety of input voltages and can be easily powered by a wide input voltage range (6.5 V to 28 V). The TPS562209EVM-601 EVM-601 supports a DC/DC conversion of up to 22 V and provides a maximum output power of 28 W. It can also generate up to 6 A of peak current.
The main components of the EVM-601 are the TPS562209 synchronous current buffer, the floating power supply, the input voltage selector, the load connection board, the output power connector and the input voltage filter. The TPS562209 synchronous current buffer converts the input current into output current pulses and selects the maximum current limit levels. The input voltage selector enables the user to enter the input voltage level and select the proper output voltage. The load connection board provides a 4-pin terminal block connection for the load and the output power connector for the output voltage connection. The input voltage filter removes the high-frequency noise components and ensures that the board is protected against EMI. It also provides a provision for remote sensing.
The working principle of the TPS562209EVM-601 begins with the input source, which passes through an input filter and then to the input voltage selector of the board. The current from the input source then passes through the output power connector to the synchronous current buffer. The synchronous current buffer receives two reference voltages, which are provided by the floating power supply to ensure isolation between the input and output. The synchronous current buffer then converts the input DC current into output pulse current which is used to drive the load. The pulses are then cooled down and passed to the output connector.
