Today’s LED lighting systems require a very efficient, accurately controlled and cost-effective system-level solution. The TPS54200EVM-818 is an eight-channel LED driver evaluation module (EVM) designed to address these needs. It is a complete, fully integrated voltage source designed to drive up to eight strings of red-green-blue (RGB) light-emitting diodes (LEDs) in any configuration.

The TPS54200EVM-818 contains a high-efficiency, constant-current buck regulator using the TPS54200 high-current, synchronous buck regulator as the core. It employs a patented, switch-mode, constant current operation that provides excellent dimming performance, excellent efficiency and fast switching over wide input-voltage ranges. Additionally, the TPS54200 can operate from an input supply as low as twice the output current.

The TPS54200EVM-818 can be used for a wide range of applications, including small displays, automotive lighting, LCD backlighting, and industrial/architectural lighting. It supports up to eight parallel-connected LEDs, each with five strings of up to five LEDs per string. The TPS54200EVM-818 offers up to 8A of total output current, making it suitable for driving even the higher power LEDs. It also has excellent efficiency and fast transient response, making it well suited for fast-changing lighting applications. The evaluation module also provides adjustable peak current setting and adjustable current balance, a soft-start feature, and adjustable switching frequency.

The TPS54200EVM-818 is designed to provide an adjustable LED dimming down to 1/256 of full brightness for each of the up to eight channels. The module uses a separate regulated output voltage for each channel, with each channel capable of delivering up to 1.75A of continuous current and up to 8A of total maximum output current. The adjustable dimming range is from 0V to 12V on each channel for full dimming. The module also features internal temperature protection and current, voltage, and over-temperature protection.
