The TPS5430EVM-173F is an evaluation board providing designers with a complete solution to evaluate Texas Instruments digital solutions for DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPS applications. The user can quickly evaluate the features such as the device operation, efficiency, ripple and noise, FET ripple current and start-up time by adjusting the software and hardware configuration. This evaluation board was designed to provide designers with the smooth adjustment of output voltage levels from 4.5V to 38V output at an adjustable current range up to 2A with a high frequency PWM buck converter.The TPS5430EVM-173F board consists of an integrated buck DC/DC converter circuit that draws input power from either an AC or DC source and is capable of outputting up to a maximum of 38V at a maximum of 2A continuous current. The input voltage range is rated from 4.5V to 38V, testing with the supplied 3-Terminal AC/DC Adapter.The board features a full DC power supply circuit protected against over-voltage, over-temperature, and current-limit faults that result from output current and input voltage discrepancies. Furthermore, Passive components and integrated matching circuits are included for optimizing the performance of the board.The outputs of the TPS5430EVM-173F can be adjusted by a combination of hardware switches (S1, S2, and S3), DIP switches (SW1 and SW2), and jumpers (JP1 and JP2). These switches and jumpers are provided to change the output voltage of the board.The DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPS application field of the TPS5430EVM-173F is widely applicable for a variety of applications such as motor drives, medical systems, and portable equipment. With its user-friendly adjustable hardware, it is ideal for researching and developing optimum operating parameters for SMPS circuits without sacrificing reliability or required power.The TPS5430EVM-173F board works based on a high-frequency, non-inverting, fixed-frequency, and high-efficiency PWM buck converter. Inside the board, there are two active components, an inductor and a switching power FET. The switching power FET is driven by the push-pull converter having the operating frequency of 600 kHz. This frequency has been chosen to provide a suitable trade-off between efficiency and output voltage accuracy.The TPS5430EVM-173F board is designed to provide an adjustable output voltage, while sustaining a high efficiency. The current drawn from the input is regulated by a single switch operating in PWM mode by means of an internal digital error amplifier. The feedback circuit senses the output voltage and regulates the PWM circuit to maintain the output voltage at the pre-set level. The output voltage of the TPS5430EVM-173F board is adjustable via jumpers (JP1 and JP2) and DIP switches (SW1 and SW2). The output voltage can be changed from 4.5V to 18V with the DIP switches, and from 19V to 38V with the jumpers. The maximum output current is set at 2 A, limited by the circuit protection feature incorporated onto the board.To ensure long-term reliability, the board also features a number of internal protections for over current, over voltage, overheating, and short circuit. These protections are imbedded into the digital error amplifier, and are useful in applications such as motor drives, medical systems, and portable equipment.Overall, the TPS5430EVM-173F is an efficient, highly adjustable, and reliable evaluation board ideal for researching and developing users\' desired DC/DC & AC/DC (off-line) SMPS settings.
