The TPS55340PWPR is a highly integrated DC/DC synchronous buck Regulator targeted at high current applications requiring small form factor solution. The Regulator is excellent for applications such as notebook computer, tablet PC and other battery-powered applications. The TPS55340PWPR integrates a synchronization FET and the entire voltage feedback loop in a single package, reducing complexity while ensuring the best transient response performance.The TPS55340PWPR requires minimal external components and provides the most cost effective way to design high power regulator systems. It integrates 65mΩ buck switching LDMOS transistors, a synchronization FET, an error amplifier, a high current driver, a non-synchronous buck Regulator for an adjustable voltage regulator output and an operating range of 2.6V to 5.5V. The synchronous buck converter is pin-selectable for either 1.2A or 1.8A of continuous output current, while providing a low Quiescent current of 0.85mA at no load and a low shutdown current of 0.1µA.

Working Principle

The TPS55340PWPR works by using its synchronous buck high side MOSFET and low side MOSFET to efficiently regulate the voltage on its output. The high side MOSFET is controlled by the current flowing through the synchFET, while the low side MOSFET is activated through the feedback circuitry. The control loop is closed between the voltage output, sensed internally by its error amplifier, and the voltage input. This is done through a series of feedback loops in its R/C components to ensure that the input Voltage is always maintained.The TPS55340PWPR\'s current limit circuitry monitors the output current and prevents the Regulator from exceeding its specified rating.
