Operating Principle

The TPS568215RNNR operates using a closed loop control system that helps to regulate output voltage over line, load and temperature variations. A regulated output voltage is generated by sensing the output voltage with a feedback (FB) pin and comparing it to an internal reference voltage in a comparator. The difference between these two voltages, known as an Error Signal, is filtered and applied to the pulse-width modulated (PWM) comparator.

A high-speed on-time control loop further refines the output voltage by setting the on-time of the high-side and low-side transistors. A signals level shifter produces the on times based on the Error Signal. Once the PWM comparator generates an on-time signal, it is passed to the Internal Switching Regulator (ISR), which controls the electrical switch-over between the high-side and low-side switches.

Finally, the output of ISR is sent to the main output drivers, which are responsible for controlling the on-times of the high and low-side transistors. The TPS568215RNNR can turn on the high-side switch for a period of time and then turn off the low-side switch for a period of time. This process continues in a pulsed fashion until the output voltage is in equilibrium with the internal reference voltage.
