Working Principle

The TPS61071TDDCRQ1 uses a switching architecture to efficiently convert its input voltage to a regulated output voltage. The device contains a voltage regulator, consisting of an internal MOSFET, a voltage reference, an error amplifier and other control circuitry. The internal MOSFET is operated in a pulse-width modulation (PWM) mode with current-mode control. Input current is controlled by a variable duty cycle signal, generated by the internal circuitry. Its feedback loop maintains a regulated output voltage over a range of supply conditions. The variable duty cycle signal adjusts the on-time of the internal P-MOSFET according to the sensed output voltage. The operation frequency is programmable via the RSEL resistor.

The TPS61071TDDCRQ1 also includes an integrated power MOSFET capable of handling output currents up to 1A, over temperature protection (OTP) protection, low drop-out linear regulation, wide operating temperature range and enhanced transient response. The device can operate at input voltages between 4.5V and 16V and its output voltage accuracy is ±1.5%. The device also features a sleep mode, which reduces quiescent current consumption while in standby. Additionally, an external component enables the device to enter self-start behavior when the output voltage is larger than the reference voltage.

The device is also equipped with low-side and high-side ESD protection features, allowing it to effectively protect against electrostatic voltage transients that can damage the internal components and reduce system performance.
