The TPS61073DDCR is a high-efficiency, highly integrated boost converter with current-mode control. It has a wide input voltage range and requires very few external components. The TPS61073DDCR is designed to operate from an input voltage range of 2.5V to 5.5V and provides a regulated output voltage of up to 5.5V. It features a low start up voltage, extremely low quiescent current and low shutdown current, making this an ideal solution for portable battery-operated applications. The TPS61073DDCR operates in three control modes: continuous current mode (CCM), discontinuous current mode (DCM) and pulse frequency modulation (PFM).

The TPS61073DDCR is ideal for use in space-limited, battery-powered applications, such as digital still cameras, PC cameras, PDAs, fingertip devices, and other mobile digital devices. For example, it can be used to provide a regulated 5V output to power an image sensor in a digital still camera. It is also ideal for providing power for 3.3V/5V/1.8V peripheral circuitries in mobile devices. The TPS61073DDCR also features active output discharge for an improved efficiency, and a dynamic ripple-rejection of up to 80dB, making it an ideal solution for noise-sensitive applications.

The TPS61073DDCR boost converter circuit consists of an input voltage regulator (regulator I) connected to the input voltage and an output voltage regulator (regulator II) connected to the output voltage. The two regulators are connected in series and are configured to maintain their respective output voltages regardless of variations in the input voltage. The first regulator, Regulator I, is configured to regulate the input voltage down to a level that is approximately equal to the output voltage, plus the dropout voltage of regulator II.
