The TPS61195RUYT, also known as the TPS61195, is a PMIC (Power Management Integrated Circuit) LED Driver that is used extensively in automotive, industrial and consumer markets. It is a three-phase adaptive-on-time programmable LED driver, designed to provide highly efficient, constant current driving of LEDs that can be dimmed, with the brightness and color temperature changing in proportion to the changes in input voltage. This PMIC LED Driver is designed for automotive and other high-Reliability applications and is developed using the most advanced process-technology available.

The TPS61195 is a highly reliable, high efficiency and cost-effective LED driver. It has two modes of operation – the Run Mode and the Light Modelling (LMD) Mode. In Run Mode, the TPS61195 operates at variable frequency with the predetermined on-time and off-time, allowing for dimming, with both on-time and off-time inversely proportional to the input voltage. Additionally, the on-time and off-time in the Run Mode can be configured to adjust the colour temperature of the LEDs in proportion to the input voltage. In LMD mode, the TPS61195 operates at variable frequency and performs light modelling, in which the on-time and off-time are calculated in the MCU according to the reference current.

The device is designed to operate from a wide input voltage range from 6V to 17V when using the 6-pin package. This is flexible enough to accommodate most automotive nominal battery voltages for engine crank and ignition. The TPS61195 also monitors supply voltage, which protects the system against under-voltages. The output current range is programmable from 40mA to 1000mA and this allows a wide variety of LEDs to be driven. Furthermore, the TPS61195 supports a wide number of LEDs (up to 8 LEDs) and has built-in LED open/short detection.

The TPS61195 is offered in the 6-pin SOIC package and includes the following electrical characteristics: supply current of 800µA max, reference accuracy of 1.5% max, temperature range of -25°C to +125°C and under/over-voltage protection of 6.5V to 17V. Additionally, it has a wide common-mode transient immunity of 25V/μs and a programmable, adaptive on-time switching frequency of 37KHz.

The TPS61195 LED Driver features various protection features such as output over-current protection, output over-voltage protection, output short-circuit protection and LED open-circuit protection. In the case of an output over-current, the output is shut down immediately and a flag is set, after which the device needs to be power cycled to reset the flag. This feature helps to protect the LEDs from permanent damage, ensuring greater reliability and longer service life.
