TPS62140EVM-505 Evaluation board is designed to provide a flexible and easy to use platform to evaluate the operation and performance of the TPS62140 Voltage Regulator.

The TPS62140 is a simple, high efficiency, monolithic synchronous Buck converter designed to supply up to 1A output current from an input voltage as low as 2.3V for battery-powered applications. By utilizing two independent transistors, the module is capable of regulating both the output voltage and the current during a start-up transient. The minimum input voltage is 2.3V, the maximum input voltage is 5.5V and the output voltage is adjustable from 0.8V to 4.3V.

The module is capable of shutting down the output voltage under a low-power state. Its architecture integrates the low voltage startup and output linear load regulation in a single chip, while employing high-efficiency synchronous buck regulator topology to minimize the power losses. It also includes various built-in protection features such as OVP/UVP, soft start and Thermal shutdown. The package size is small enough to fit into battery powered or compact applications.

The TPS62140EVM-505 evaluation module is designed to evaluate and demonstrate the capabilities of the TPS62140 control IC. The board is designed with two DC power inputs, allowing both the input voltage and the output voltage to be varied for a wide range of applications. The working principle of the TPS62140EVM-505 evaluation module is similar to that of most DC/DC converters. The module uses an input voltage VIN (min. 2.3V) as the source of power and an inductor L1 to store energy as the current through the inductor increases. When an increasing voltage is applied to the primary winding of the transformer, a corresponding increasing current is induced in the secondary winding through Faraday\'s law. This induced current is rectified and filtered to acquire a DC output voltage. The output voltage is regulated by a voltage divider network that senses the output voltage and adjusts the duty cycle of the MOSFET switch accordingly.
