The TPS62237DRYR is a 3 A step-down DC-DC converter with integrated FETs and is designed for use in space-limited applications where output voltage flexibility is required. This device offers a wide output voltage range from 0.8 V up to 5 V and can be accessed with an external resistor divider. It features an integrated soft-stop function to reduce the inrush current during startup and frequency foldback during over-temperature or over-current protection to reduce power dissipation while operating at low output load levels.

The integrated voltage setting resistor divider supports adjustment range from 0.8 V to 5 V with the minimal external components. The output voltage is easily set by connecting a voltage divider at VADJ(adj) and GND pins. The device requires only a small low cost ceramic output capacitor for stability and it also supports a wide input voltage range from 2.7 V up to 12 V.

The TPS62237DRYR employs a constant-frequency current-mode control architecture operating in Pulse Width Modulation (PWM) mode at a default switching frequency of 1.2 MHz which is adjustable down to 200 kHz for an optimum noise vs. efficiency tradeoff. It is optimized for low no-load and minimal shutdown current. The high level of integration of this device greatly simplifies the design process, reducing the number of external components and PCB area.

The TPS62237DRYR is available in a space-saving 1.6 mm x 2.0 mm x 0.35 mm WLCSP package as well as an SOT-223-5 package with a rated junction temperature of -40 °C to +125 °C. Working Principle

The TPS62237DRYR is a highly integrated step-down DC-DC converter with an integrated FET. It consists of an internal control block, a rectifier, an inductor and output capacitor. The device operates in constant-frequency current-mode control in PWM mode at a switching frequency of 1.2 MHz which is adjustable down to 200 kHz. The output voltage is set with an external resistor divider and is delivered to the load via an n-channel power MOSFET. During operation, the internal control block monitors the current in the power stage to determine whether the output voltage needs to be adjusted and adjusts the frequency accordingly.

The device enters the PFM mode when the load current is low. In this mode, the PWM pulses are removed and the MOSFET is allowed to remain OFF for longer periods of time, resulting in improved light-load efficiency and lower output voltage ripple. The device features over-temperature protection and current limiting, which is adjustable with an external resistor, to guard against overload conditions.
