The TPS62561DDCR is a high-performance synchronous step-down converter with a current-mode PWM controller, designed in a very small power-dense QFN-6 (1.6mmx1.9mm) package. It features integrated MOSFETs to minimize solution size and light load efficiency performance while providing high-performance conversions. Working Principle

TPS62561DDCR uses hysteretic current mode control topology for synchronous buck control. It enables fast dynamic responses of the inner loop to any load and line changes with no external compensation, therefore reducing the external part count. External sense resistor is employed to detect the inductor current and provide the proper feedback control. Due to its fast control loop, when the load changes, TPS62561DDCR is able to adjust the duty cycle in a real-time response, in order to keep a safer and accurate working conditions. The balance between the ripple current and efficiency are also optimized.

The external MOSFETs are integrated for high efficiency and to reduce solution size. Since the internal N-Channel MOSFETs are always in the on-state, the power losses are reduced. Thermal protection is built with a hysteretic over-temperature protection (OTP) to protect the device from thermal failures caused by lack of power device cooling.

TPS62561DDCR can sense the output voltage to provide a feedback loop to adjust the output voltage when needed. In addition to regulating the output voltage, the device also provides a power-good (PG) signal to indicate the output voltage is within programmed specification. The TPS62561DDCR also has special features like light load efficiency optimization, supply voltage de-rating and voltage tracking (VTRK).

TPS62561DDCR supports both fixed-frequency and frequency-folding mode. Fixed-frequency mode is based on clock frequency of 350KHz to 1MHz. Frequency-folding mode adjusts the switching frequency at around the zero load conditions to further optimize the efficiency for light-loading applications. The fold-frequency current limit will maintain a steady current limit and the adjustable soft-start keeps the output voltage from overshooting.
