Working Principle
The TPS63012YFFR DC-DC switching regulator basically works on the PFM (Pulse Frequency Modulation) switching principle in which instead of varying the pulse width (as used in other topologies like PWM), the circuit modulates the output current to regulate the voltage. Here the output voltage is sensed by the device and the pulse frequency is modulated via an internal signal. This modulated signal is given to the PWM comparator and the output signal is inverted and then applied to the Pulse-width signal drive circuit to drive the power MOSFET. When the signal starts to increase, the PWM comparator output decreases accordingly and the duty cycle of the power MOSFET decreases too, thus reducing the output power.
