Aluminum Electrolytic Capacitors

Aluminum electrolytic capacitors are polarized, non-solid electrolytic capacitors which use an electrolytic medium as the dielectric medium. They are mainly used for high voltage power supply applications such as power supplies, motor drives and other high voltage circuits. The advantage of aluminum electrolytic capacitors is their compact size and high capacitance values when compared to ceramic capacitors.

The UBW1V101MPD is a radial lead, aluminum electrolytic capacitor that is designed for general purpose power supply and signal filtering applications. It has a capacitance range of 10 to 1000 uF, a voltage rating of 100V, and an operating temperature range of -55 to +85°C.

Application Field

The UBW1V101MPD aluminum electrolytic capacitors are widely used in power supply, signal filtering, and transient voltage suppression (TVS) applications. They are also used in other switch mode power supply and DC-DC converter circuits, and rectifiers. These capacitors can also be used for DC filtering, DC blocking, and across the line motor protection in greater than 10 KV and up to 1 MV.

Working Principle

The UBW1V101MPD aluminum electrolytic capacitor works on the same principle as any other electrolytic capacitor. It has two conductive surfaces, a cathode and an anode, which are separated by an electrolyte. The electrolyte acts as an insulator and prevents the two surfaces from making contact, creating a dielectric medium. When an alternating current is applied, an electric field is generated. This electric field causes the dielectric medium to bridge the gap between the two conductive surfaces allowing the current to flow. The capacitor stores energy in the form of an electrical field, allowing it to store energy for long periods without losing charge.

The construction of the UBW1V101MPD capacitor is similar to that of other aluminum electrolytic capacitors. It consists of an anode, formed from a rolled sheet of aluminum foil, a cathode which is constructed from a porous paper sheet impregnated with an electrolyte, and two leads for supplying power.
