Working Principle

The UC2823N is a dual-channel synchronous step-down controller that offers enhanced performance and improved efficiency. It uses a bipolar external power switch in each of the two channels and is capable of delivering up to 1.3A of output current with a non-standard voltage range of 3.3V-32V.The principle of operation is based on the use of two external PMOS power switches as the two legs of a dual-channel synchronous step-down controller. Each of these PMOS switches is connected in series with a corresponding inductor and output capacitor and is capable of operating with a wide operating power range.When the utility voltage is connected and the switch is enabled, the UC2823N control IC switches the two external PMOS switches alternately until the set voltage is achieved at the output. It uses a frequency modulated PWM, with a peak-to-peak ripple control bandwidth of 1kHz - 33kHz to control the duty cycle of the PMOS switches. The current- sense resistor measures the current flowing in the system and sets the peak current limit to prevent over-current conditions. The current-limit resistor also limits the peak output current of the current.
