It can also be used for solar array applications and in uninterruptible power supplies (UPS). This DC-DC switching controller works on a thyristor-logic control scheme. When the switching clock triggers a logic 1, the timer circuit of UC2846DW would immediately actuate a zero-voltage transition (ZVT) internal switch. This ZVT internal switch then closes an external relay to enable current to flow through the thyristor and the circuit will be instantaneously activated. To prevent the circuit from overloading or overheating, the UC2846DW incorporates an accurate current limit control circuit. The current control circuit utilizes an internal current sensing circuitry to compare the voltage drop across an external series current sense resistor, with a reference voltage. If the current exceeds the preset limit, a dependable logic signal is communicated to the internal controller to activate the ZVT switch to open the output relay to disable the thyristor and the current flow through the circuit is immediately interrupted. The switching frequency of the UC2846DW is adjustable within the range of 200KHz to 1MHz. The frequency is adjusted properly by conditioning pulse width modulation (PWM) control with an internal PWM comparator. The PWM comparator lets a certain amount of current through depending on its preset voltage level. This enables users to make the necessary adjustments to attain the desired frequency output at the desired level of output power.The UC2846DW switching controller offers several advantages. Its wide range of 8V to 36V input voltage allows it to be used in a variety of applications.
