It supports analog and digital soft-start, and offers current limiting, over-voltage protection, and under-voltage protection. It also includes maximum power point tracking (MPPT) and differential remote sense. The IC provides transient deviations as low as 5% (90%/5ms) with peak load current of 30A.

The UC2854BNG4 is most suitable for AC to DC(switched mode power supplies) applications, with a power input range from 80W to 1000W. It can be used in single-stage PFC applications for both continuous conduction mode (CCM) and discontinuous conduction mode (DCM). It is also suitable for two-stage PFC applications, where the IC can be used in a single-stage PFC with a boost PFC pre-regulator.

UC2854BNG4 Working Principle

The UC2854BNG4 consists of two internal sections, control and power. The control section includes a bandgap reference, power control circuitry and a voltage feedback loop. The power section includes two high-side and two low-side FETs, each driven by a pulse width modulator (PWM).

The voltage feedback loop samples an input voltage, and compares it with an internal bandgap reference. Based on the comparison, the control section produces an error signal which is then used to modulate the current delivered to the output. The PWM adjusts the pulse width to control the output voltage, and the combination of current and voltage limiters regulates the maximum power of the output.
